For a person who needs 2000 calories per day, six ounce equivalents of grains
are recommended. In general, 1 slice of bread, 1 cup of ready-to-eat cereal, or
½ cup of cooked rice, cooked pasta, or cooked cereal counts as one ounce
equivalent of grain.
In addition to getting the right amount of grain, it is
important to select whole grain foods. Making at least half your grains whole
would mean 3 ounce equivalents of whole grain each day for a 2000-calorie diet.
So remember, make half your grains whole.
